Chef Instructor

Chef Instructor – Pastry,
Part-Time (Bilingual)

Required for evenings 16:00 to 21:00, Mondays through Thursdays, with the occasional Saturday afternoon or weekday class


Hourly rate: $28 to $32 per hour, depending on level of experience

Number of hours per week: 18 – 24 (Equivalent of 3 to 4 classes per week)

Successful candidates who possess the following qualities and experience will be contacted for an interview:


– Bilingual – Able to teach in English and French (fluent)
– Experience in a professional kitchen doing pastries (2+ years)
– Trained in French Cuisine Pastry techniques (Certified)
– Previous experience teaching adults and children, or public speaking (asset)
– Dynamic personality, someone who loves to help others and thrives in a multi-tasking environment


Students of culinary programs and recent graduates are welcome to apply if above criteria are met.


Responsibilities:


– Lead pastry classes for adults and children ages 12 to 15
– Demonstrate French Cuisine Pastry techniques, including tempering chocolate, cakes and cake decorating, macarons, croissants, pies, other pastry doughs
– Ensure a safe, fun, and educational learning environment
– Help in preparation of ingredients and teaching materials
– Maintain kitchen equipment and teaching spaces


Educational Requirements:

Pastry Arts diploma
Teaching experience (preferred)
Food safety certification
Red Seal certification (asset)


Professional Skills:

– Excellent communication abilities in French and English
– Patient and engaging teaching style
– Strong classroom management skills
– Ability to adapt instruction for different learning styles
– Self-reliant, able to act quickly when faced with unforeseen events
